The first big headache? What to do with everything that doesn’t fit in a suitcase. Furniture, books, memories, things big and small… Selling everything would be a shame. Taking it all with me? Impossible. That’s when I discovered self storage — and honestly, it saved me.
Renting a storage unit was the best decision I made. I stored everything I couldn’t bring but didn’t want to sell or give away in a rush. Knowing that everything was safely stored gave me peace of mind — and the freedom to start this new chapter with less weight (literally and emotionally).
My international moving checklist, doesn’t matter if you’re moving from Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, Spain or Germany or so:
✔ All documents sorted (passport, visa, certificates — everything scanned and organised);
✔ Researched where to live, cost of living, transport;
✔ Moving company contacted well in advance;
✔ Important items safely stored in a temporary storage space;
✔ Services cancelled and bank accounts closed;
✔ Said my goodbyes (or rather, my “see you soons”).
Today I’m in Lisbon, adjusting to a new pace of life. It gives me peace of mind knowing my things are safe back home — and I even spotted a self-storage company called KUBOO near Carcavelos, where I live. I’m planning to check them out. Who knows — I might just hire an international moving company and move my belongings into one of KUBOO’s mini storage units in nearby KUBOO Abóboda.
